Nikki Imes, CPM – Midwife & CranioSacral Therapist
My passion for birth started early on. I have distinctive memories as an 8-year-old, flipping through books and being fascinated with the stories and pictures depicting birth. My journey as a birth worker began as a teenager, when I was present for the home births of 2 of my siblings, in 1997 and 2000.
I trained as a doula in 1999 and began attending births in 2000. Birth work was put on hold for a time while I took an opportunity to live in Switzerland and explore European life. I re-trained as a doula in 2007 and was DONA-certified in 2009. That same year that I joined the Community Midwifery team and began the Oklahoma Midwives Alliance (OMA) Midwife Assistant course. Upon completion, I certified as a Midwife’s Assistant in 2011.
During 2011, I also began training in CranioSacral therapy (CST). The primary focus of my CST practice is pregnant women and infants with breastfeeding struggles, particularly those who have or have had tongue tie. However, I enjoy working with clients of all ages and often have entire families come to me for CranioSacral therapy
My midwifery training began in 2012, utilizing the OMA’s Senior Midwife didactic course while apprenticing at Community Midwifery Services. I became an OMA Senior Midwife in 2016 and achieved my CPM in the summer of 2017. I have attended over 300 births as a doula, midwife’s assistant, and primary midwife.
Currently, I offer midwifery care in the group practice setting at Community Midwifery. I believe that pregnancy and birth are powerful times in a woman’s life, and the role of a midwife is to support a woman in finding her own inner strength as she creates and brings forth her child.
Birth matters. It brings us into being, on many levels.
